Built in 1922, the original Hotel Granada was adjacent to the Elmo Theatre, San Luis Obispo’s premier vaudeville venue. Long thought to be an enclave for traveling artists and actors, rumor has it that hotel rooms were rented by the hour throughout the Jazz Age. When the hotel closed in the 1960’s, the upstairs rooms were converted into residential housing, while the downstairs spaces were rented to retailers.
In 2009, a small bistro and wine bar opened in the space that is now our lobby and adopted the name ‘Granada’ because the Hotel Granada sign still hung above it. Back then, the Bistro only had four candlelit tables, simple food made with love (including our signature panini), eclectic wines served in vintage glassware, and guests who turned into friends.
When the building was slated to be demolished in 2010, the owners of the bistro (now known as Nomada Hotel Group) set out on a two year labor of love to restore the character-rich property to it’s former glory. We just celebrated Granada Hotel’s centennial anniversary and we look forward to welcoming guests like you for years to come.
